How to make money betting on football

Who doesn’t want to bet on their favourite sport, enjoy the action, and bag a handsome profit at the end? Like most things in life that sound too good to be true, it’s because they aren’t.

In reality, the vast majority of recreational sports bettors will always lose money in the long run. For every ‘sharp’ bettor with a profitable track record, there are likely tens of thousands of unprofitable ones. This is largely due to lacking understanding of the basic maths behind betting, poor bet selection, and bad bankroll management or lack thereof.

While this holds true for most recreational bettors, getting your head around how betting works and knowing what to do is not sufficient alone. After all, knowing what to do, being able to do it, and actually doing it are three different things completely. As the old adage goes:

Knowledge without practice is useless. Practice without knowledge is dangerous.

Confucius

Interestingly, from over 15 years of experience in the betting industry, we’ve observed that perhaps the biggest barrier to overcome is psychological. Of the few who’ve invested their time learning how to become profitable bettors, most fail to implement what they’ve learned.
